“Believe” the hype and the rumors — “Ted Lasso” is returning for Season 4 with Jason Sudeikis set to reprise his role as the titular coach. The news comes nearly two years after the finale for Season 3, an episode that many believed was the series’ last and that was titled “So Long, Farewell.”

“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,’” Sudeikis, the star, co-creator and executive producer, said in a statement. “In Season 4, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”
“‘Ted Lasso’ has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief,” Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, said. “Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”
“If ever there was a show the world needed more of right now, it would be ‘Ted Lasso,’” Warner Bros. Television and WBD US Networks chairman Channing Dungey said in a statement. “We — along with countless fans around the globe — have been rooting for another season, and it is an incredible feeling to be able to say, ‘Yes, it’s happening!’ We thank our partners at Apple and can’t wait for Jason and the entire ‘Ted Lasso’ dream team to step back onto the pitch and deliver another season of this phenomenal series.”
It’s unclear exactly which actors will be returning for this new season alongside Sudeikis, though Warner Bros. Television previously picked up the options for three of the show’s stars, covered by Equity contracts: Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift and Brett Goldstein. What’s even less certain is what could happen in this new installment, or when exactly it’ll be back on the air.
Season 3 concluded with Ted returning to America to coach his son’s soccer team. As for the rest of the AFC Richmond team, Roy (Brett Goldstein) became the club’s manager, while Keeley (Juno Temple) pitched Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) about an AFC Richmond Women’s Team. Only time will tell if the comedy series will return to inspiring the men’s team or if it will instead focus on the women’s team. If it’s the latter, it’s even less certain how Ted Lasso himself will play into the new story.
More is known about the creative side of “Ted Lasso” Season 4. As previously mentioned, Sudeikis will star and executive produce this new installment alongside Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee and Bill Wrubel. Emmy winner Jack Burditt, known for his work on “Nobody Wants This” and “30 Rock,” will also executive produce under his new overall deal with Apple TV+. Brett Goldstein serves as writer and executive producer alongside Leanne Bowen. Bill Lawrence executive produces via his Doozer Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, which is a division of NBCUniversal Content. Doozer’s Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer also serve as executive producers.
